Some thoughts on dealing with alcohol, smoking & co

We would like a considerate approach to alcohol consumption, smoking and other drugs. It is important to us that as few exclusions as possible are generated.

We wish that people can participate in queerfeMS:

  • who had or still have unpleasant / traumatic experiences related to alcohol, smoking and other drugs …
  • and / or have addiction experiences and are in the process of getting or staying sober…

… and therefore can not and will not be able to stay in spaces, where drugs are consumed.

The intoxication culture is widespread and an often unquestioned standard. For many people it means that they can not attend public events like parties, pubs, concerts, etc. Actually, alcohol is always served and other intoxicating substances are consumed.
Even if smokers smoke outside the door, it can still be a great barrier when people have to go through a group of smoking people when they come or go. Especially at evening events there are hardly any alternatives and offers for people who need and want drug-free rooms.

At the same time we want that people who consume drugs/who are addicted can participate aswell at queerfeMS and are not excluded. We want more solidarity, especially with people who make addiction experiences.

We want to ask people who (have to) drink (alcohol), consume nicotine and / or other drugs for their consideration. This means in concrete terms:

  • The smokers‘ areas will be a little further away from the locations. Please smoke only in these areas and do not leave your tobacco bags in other public places.
  • In the time of the queerfeMS we will not serve alcoholic beverages and hope for a handling with alcohol, which does not produce any exclusions. If you want to drink alcohol, please be careful: ask (really all) people in your surroundings, if it’s okay to drink alcohol, do not carry alcoholic beverages visibly with you, do not leave bottles lying around etc. We want the same kind of aware handling for all other drugs.

Take care of each other, talk with your friends about it and have a lot of fun! =)
